Easing Kids Back to School With Essential Oils

Before the school year begins, I like to sit down with each of my kids and chat with them about what's coming up.  We talk about sports they'd like to play, goals they have, and even things they are worried about.  Kids are always a little bit nervous about the changes each school year can bring.  They can get anxious and excited at the same time.

I'm not the kind of person who is crazy about natural or holistic medicine, but I do like to use safe and natural remedies to help my family at home before I get into more conventional methods...but when someone needs a doctor, we go...no matter what!  With that said, I have really enjoyed using essential oils with my family...especially when it comes to helping them stay calm, cool, and focused.  So last year, I sent each of my boys back to school with a small survival kit.  Each of these oils can be applied by my children without harming themselves or anyone else, and they can be used as often as needed safely, and effectively.

1.  Orange Oil has been a real life saver for my youngest little man.  He is 6 years old and often struggles with anxious feelings.  This has really helped him enjoy life since we stared using it this summer.  I have him put one in his hands, rub them together and then rub them on his collar bones.  He also cups his hands over his nose and deeply inhales the aroma 3-4 times.  This helps him feel grounded, calm and emotionally balanced.  Wild Orange also promotes healthy digestion and helps to promote uplifting thoughts and feelings.

2.  Lemon Oil also helps with anxiety, concentration, and healthy digestion, but it is also very good at killing germs.  My kids use one drop of oil on their hands and rub them together to disinfect their hands before they eat lunch.  If they don't get a chance to wash their hands before lunch time, they can use their little bottle of lemon oil found in their lunchboxes.

3.   An Immunity Blend is an essential oil blend that helps to boost the immune system. Because my kids are around all kinds of germs at school, blends like "OnGuard" help their immune systems fight off those nasty bugs before they have a chance to settle in and make them sick.  We diffuse 5 drops of OnGuard in the morning while we are going about our breakfast routine.  That way, just by breathing it in, my kids have a better chance of fighting off infections.  And, because it smells like cinnamon bears, no body has any complaints!

4. A Focus Blend can help kids concentrate during the school day.  It comes in an easy to apply roll-on that is applied once a day on the bottoms of the feet (we did this before school).  My oldest has commented on several occasions that he feels more calm and focused during tests on days that he uses a blend like InTune.
